Discussion Forum on Pharma Bio Patenting in Europe

The readers may be interested to know of a discussion forum that is soon going to be held on December 16, 2013 on the topic of ‘Pharma Bio Patenting in Europe’. The forum is going to be jointly hosted by the GNA Patent Gurkul (an institution headed by Dr. Gopakumar G. Nair that seeks to congregate law, science and management to unleash the patent realm providing the most awaited and much needed interface between industry and academia) and the Pravin Gandhi College of Law.

A prominent speaker in the forum is going to be Mr. Kerry Rees, an experienced European chartered patent attorney and a senior associate at WP Thompson, London. Mr. Rees is a specialist in biotechnology and has over a decade’s experience in patenting technologies relating to immunology and therapeutic antibodies, expression vectors and vaccines, microarrays, personalised medicine, diagnostic methods for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and oncology, drug repurposing, NCEs and pharmaceutical formulations. He has worked with a wide variety of clients helping develop IP strategies for start-up companies and SMEs, assisting Universities and spin-out companies and managing large patent portfolios for multinational corporations. He has also represented clients before the European Patent Office in opposition and appeal proceedings and is frequently involved in freedom-to-operate reviews and opinions on third party rights.
