INTA has set India in its sights as a strategic priority. In early February, the Association sent a delegation to meet with the Joint Secretary for the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the Commissioner of Customs and the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks. In response to a request from the latter (Mr. Chaitanya Prasad) to provide more training for Indian trademark owners on the Madrid Protocol, this year’s Annual Meeting will feature a special panel on “Using Madrid Protocol–Risks & Rewards” on Tuesday, May 13 from 11:45am to 1:00pm.
INTA has also created India-specific committees, such as the Trademark Office Practices Committee—India IP Office Subcommittee and the India Global Advisory Council. Members of these groups will meet face to face at the Annual Meeting in Hong Kong to collaborate and identify areas for improvement in the country’s trademark systems and processes.
