Please note: We usually have internship slots full for at least the next 4-6 months at any given time. Please apply a minimum of 3 months prior to date you wish to intern in.
We also get 100-200 applications every month and are only able to take 3-4 interns at most. Please note that 90% of the applications coming in to us look the same, especially with increased AI usage. If you can show some genuine interest, both in learning and having already put in effort to try learning more – that’s what we want to see on your application.
About the Internship Programme
The SpicyIP Internship Programme offers law students and graduates the chance to engage in meaningful research, writing and analysis in the field of IP and innovation law and policy. The interns will be required to provide high-quality research and writing assistance for various research papers, book projects, blog posts, public interest petitions, reports, advocacy campaigns and other initiatives undertaken by SpicyIP with the aim of fostering a more transparent, collaborative and productive IP/innovation ecosystem in India.
This is a writing and research-centric internship. Emails or statements of interest that are generated by AI may lead your application to be viewed in a negative light.
Eligibility
Any law student or law graduate is welcome to apply. So long as you have a strong interest in IP law, are proficient in legal research and writing, and possess a keen mind willing to learn, this opportunity is for you!
Duration of Internship
The duration of the internship must be four (4) weeks at least. It can be extended, provided you work well and we have capacity to oversee your work.
Mode of Internship
Most of the internship tasks will be co-ordinated via phone calls and emails etc., so feel free to work from wherever you please.
Certificate & Stipend
The selected candidates will be awarded a certificate and paid a stipend (based on their performance during the internship period) upon successful completion of the internship.

- Updated CV
- 1 IP-centric writing sample, and
- A 1 pager explaining your interest in IP (This is open to interpretation however you wish to understand the question).

Terms & Conditions
- If a selected candidate is found to not diligently fulfill his/her obligations at any time during the internship period, we reserve the right to terminate the internship.
- If the internship is so terminated, the candidate will not be provided with the certificate and stipend.
