Opening up Indian Law Making?

In a recent op-ed in the Mint, I lament the lack of public consultation in Indian law and policy making. I argue that its high time we moved from representative to deliberative democracy. I note the existence of a cabinet resolution calling for public consultation but note that it is weakly worded and that we need a stronger legal entitlement to the same. Analysing parts of the CCI’s spare parts order

A group of automobile manufacturers were recently fined a total sum of Rs. 25.45 billion for the practices that they adopted in the sale of their spare parts (read the 215 page order of the Commission here). The worst affected in the group was Tata Motors with a penalty of about Rs. 13.4 billion with Maruti Suzuki coming in next with a penalty of Rs. 4 billion. Guest Post: A tribute to Chris Ohly

As many of you may know by now, Chris Ohly passed away earlier last week. Shamnad has penned a touching obituary which can be accessed here. Chris Ohly was a fine lawyer and a leading IP litigator. His expertise on the Hatch Waxman act and Biologic Price Competition act was unparalleled. His contribution to IP will be deeply missed!
