SpicyIP Events: WIPO Forum on "Role of IP in the Innovative Economy"

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in association with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (Government of India) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is organizing an Inter-Regional Forum on “Role of Intellectual Property in the Innovative Economy” in New Delhi on the 26th and 27th of November, 2008.

The conference seeks to “engage the stakeholders to share their experiences, articulate views and make meaningful recommendations regarding IP issues related to dynamic use of Industrial property in brand building, market access, role of R&D – University linkage for transforming ideas into marketable products, IP audits, risk management and insurance of IP assets.” The proposed themes for the discussion are as follows:

· Pivotal Role of Intellectual Property in the Knowledge-Based and Innovative Economy

· Innovative Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management of IP for Business and Industry; IP as an Essential Element of Corporate Strategy to Promote Innovation and Competitiveness

· Dynamic Use of Industrial Property for Innovation, Growth, Competitiveness and Market Access

· Strategic Use of IP for Traditional Knowledge and Genetic Resources – Exploiting their Economic Potential

· The Contributions of Copyright-Based Industries in the Innovative Economy and the Challenges in the Digital Environment

· Innovative and Novel Uses of IP; Adding Value Through Intangible Assets; The Strategic Use of the Intellectual Capital: Options for the Growth of Businesses and Financing

· University – Industry Linkages for Transforming Innovative Ideas into Marketable Products

· InstitutionBuilding for the Strategic Use of IP for the Innovative Economy;
