Ashoka Seeks Entrepreneurial Leader for Law

Ashoka, global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs, seeks an entrepreneurial leader for its Law for All Initiative.

About Ashoka

Since 1980, Ashoka has pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship, investing in more than 2,500 leading social entrepreneurs – practical visionaries with systems-changing ideas — known as Ashoka Fellows, in over 70 countries. Ashoka Fellows work at the systemic level and Ashoka distills action-principles that cut across the work of these Fellows and creates frameworks for collaborative entrepreneurship to author global change.

Ashoka in India

In India Ashoka works with 350 Ashoka Fellows in fields ranging from education, governance, social business, human rights and more. In the last year Ashoka has rolled out a new roadmap in India and launched a new management hub in Bangalore with the objective of intensifying its efforts to amplify the impact created by the Ashoka Fellows in India.

The Law for All Initiative

Ashoka, and its Fellow network, recognizes the fact that the law is a critical enabler for social change and development. The nuanced understanding of the legal environment around a social issue and the perspective and tenacity to create a solution are indispensible tools in the hands of any social engineer – and the Law for All Initiative is created to embrace this critical place that law has on any agenda for social change. The Law for All Initiative seeks to:

· identify and support social entrepreneurs working with law and policy, particularly rights based issues and social inclusion, with the objective of bringing about global change;
· leverage existing laws, and where required, engineer policy and legal change, to accelerate the social change being brought about by Ashoka Fellows across the country;
· doing all such activities, including providing legal advice, that result in Ashoka Fellows being able to pursue their goals without fear of persecution;
· create a network of lawyers and institutions to support the Law for All Initiative through academic inputs, legal advice and synergistic activities; and
· going beyond the above to shape the Initiative into a powerful instrument of change.

Qualifications and Attributes

We’re looking for an exceptional individual. Some of the indicative qualifications are:

10+ years of work experience that demonstrates the capacity to execute and deliver, lead a team and innovate around problems where it comes to working with the law in a constructive way; achievements, across education and work that demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset, if not actual entrepreneurial experience; and legal qualifications or work experience that demonstrates a mastery over law(s) for the purposes of this Initiative.

About the Position

The person will be a member of the senior management of Ashoka in India; and will report to the Country Head. The position is based in Bangalore. Salary will commensurate with the experiences and skills of the candidate.
