IP Opening: IP Chair Research Fellow at NUJS

A position has opened up for an IP Research Fellow at NUJS, one of the leading law schools in India.

The Research Fellow will be expected to work at the cutting edge of IP policy and research work, IP litigation and IP education.

We have a number of exciting IP events planned for the future, including IP workshops/seminars/moot courts and the Fellow is expected to actively participate in all of these. Apart from this, the Fellow will be involved in IP policy work, and IP litigation, where we will be looking to engage with the courts and policy makers on IP issues that are of a public interest nature.

The Fellow is also at liberty to teach a specialised IP course at NUJS if he/she wishes.

The position pays Rs 25,000 per month. Apart from this, there are other projects which are paid as per the terms of that project/funding available. The Fellow is expected to be present in Kolkata during the tenure of the Fellowship (barring weekends and regular holidays etc). However, if the Fellow can be in Kolkata only at intermittent intervals, we can certainly try and work out a suitable arrangement.

If interested, please send an email with your CV and at least one of your written publications to the following email ID: ipchairnujs [at] gmail.com.

The written publication can be on any theme and not necessarily on IP.

You also need to send an essay on the following theme:

“It is commonly accepted wisdom that the Indian patent office manual does not have the force of law. In fact, this wisdom is etched on the very first page of the patent office manual. From a policy perspective, does this wisdom make sense?”

The essay should not exceed 1500 words.

Your application needs to reach us by 25th May 2011. It must consist of:

i) your CV
ii) one of your publications (on any theme and not necessarily IP)
iii) your written essay of 1500 words on the theme that we’ve given you

If you cannot make this date for some reason, drop us an email and we will consider. Please send your application and all the relevant documentation to ipchairnujs [at] gmail.com.

The preferred start date is the first of June 2011, but this is negotiable (we don’t aim to fill the position unless we get a suitable candidate).

Age no bar, sex no bar, and most importantly, IP ideology, no bar….
