Job Opportunity at International Trademark Association

An exciting opportunity has opened up at the International Trademark Association (INTA). The role is for an India Consultant, to be based out of New Delhi.  The Consultant is expected to provide consultancy services to INTA; specifically assist in strengthening INTA’s presence in the country by supporting policy efforts throughout the region; growing membership; providing educational and networking opportunities to the local trademark community; and supporting the Association’s global efforts. The Consultant will report to Chief Policy Officer, Director of Membership and Director of Education.

Qualifications

  • A Law Degree
  • Background in Intellectual Property Rights or International Law
  • A minimum of 7 years work experience

  • Ability to interact with INTA staff and members around the world professionally, confidently and politely
  • Ability to work well both individually and as a team member

  • Self-starter and multi-tasking
  • Flexibility in working hours as INTA’s headquarters are based in New York
  • Good organizational and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office applications as well as database software
  • Good public speaker and presenter
  • Effective time management
  • Strong technology skills and ability to learn and use systems provided by INTA including Aptify, LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Salesforce

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provides consulting services to INTA
  • Represents INTA locally
  • Proposes and executes a strategy for INTA in India applying local intelligence and keeping it in line with INTA’s Strategic Plan
  • Contributes to strengthening relations with government officials

Public Policy & Advocacy

  • Serve as the liaison to the Trademark Office Practices Committee – India IP Office Subcommittee and the India Global Advisory Council
  • Create, maintain and strengthen relations with the Intellectual Property Office India (IPO)
  • Monitor and influence local IP developments at the IPO and legislative developments by the Indian government
  • Create, maintain and strengthen relations with government officials within the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and Customs
  • Arrange and manage logistics and schedule meetings for an annual delegation visit

Membership

  • Identify organizations (companies and firms) to expand the list of prospective members (tools
    such as a Sales Navigator Linked In and Salesforce are provided)
  • Represent INTA at local IP conferences; network with organizers, speakers and attendees,and raise awareness of INTA’s efforts in India
  • Recruit new members with a special focus on corporate members
  • Develop membership campaigns specific to India corporate members that emphasize INTA’s programming and policy-related efforts
  • Secure meetings with prospective corporate members and deliver presentations about INTA’s member benefits and services
  • Lead membership renewal efforts in India
  • Provide cultural perspective on how to increase membership in India and develop regional points for INTA Membership Brochure

Programs
Plan and execute local programs such as meetings, roundtables, seminars, receptions and
conferences

Marketing

  • Work with Marketing to develop messages around membership and programs targeted for an
    Indian audience
  • Promote INTA’s global conferences to members and non-members in India
  • Identify and work with local industry associations and media partners to develop and execute agreements

Communications

  • Support INTA’s Communications plan in India by explaining the benefits of trademarks and
    related IP rights to consumers, national economies and society at large; explaining INTA’s
    policy positions to both members and non-members; to explain the value of INTA
  • Work with the India Global Advisory Council and Bulletin Managing Editor to provide content for the Quarterly Global Report
  • Communicate INTA activities in India to members and non-members in India and outside India
  • Work with a PR agency to conduct a media campaign in connection with the annual delegation
  • Participate on the INTA LinkedIn group regularly with news links and information

Legal Resources

  • Provide a demo on INTA’s Global Trademark Resources during membership pitches and to
    newly joined members
  • Promote new resources to members
  • Contributes to strengthening relations with members and non-members and engage local members in the activities of the association
  • Focus on relationship management with members
  • Work closely with INTA relevant staff and Directors
  • Manage the budget efficiently and responsibly

INTA and India 

Currently there are 154 member organizations in India of which 13 are brand owners (corporate
members) and 141 are associate members comprising of law firms, service firms and sole
practitioners.

In 2013, the following programs were offered:

  • Annual Meeting Information Sessions in Bangalore and Mumbai
  • A 1 1⁄2 day Conference which included meetings with Government Officials
  • In-House Practitioner Luncheons in New Delhi and Chennai
  • A Madrid Protocol WebcastIn 2014, the following local programs were offered:
  • A 3 day Delegation Visit in New Delhi and Mumbai which included meetings with Government
    Officials, stakeholders, press, corporate members and non-members and a pre-Annual Meeting reception
  • An In-House Counsel Meeting in Mumbai
  • A Corporate Member Meeting in Mumbai
  • Sponsorship of a Conference by the Indian Corporate Counsel Association in Goa
  • Madrid Protocol Information Sessions in Chennai and Mumbai
  • An exhibition booth at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Knowledgexpo in Noida
