SpicyIP Events: First Asia-Pacific Colloquium on IP And Competition Law at NLU-D

We are glad to announce that the Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC), National Law University, Delhi is organising the First Asia-Pacific Colloquium on Intellectual Property and Competition Law at the National Law University Delhi from March 13th to 17th, 2017. The deadline for applications is February 1, 2017.

About CIIPC

The Centre for Innovation, Intellectual Property and Competition (CIIPC) has been established at NLU Delhi with the aim of supporting academic and policy oriented dialogues in the areas of innovation, IP and competition.

CIIPC focuses on interdisciplinary legal research in the areas of innovation, IP and competition, particularly using the law and economics approach. The Centre works on contemporary issues of fundamental and empirical nature; conduct legal and policy training in innovation, IP and competition and build a network of scholars in these areas.

About the Workshop

The colloquium is open for legal academicians, early professionals and regulators working on issues of intellectual property law and competition law interface in the Asia-Pacific region. The purpose of the colloquium is to provide an opportunity to participants to engage in a meaningful study of the various domain of intellectual property and competition law, with emphasis on the contemporary issues that are relevant to each field of study.

All the sessions will be conducted by reputed academics and practicioners from across the world, possessing the required expertise in the subjects of intellectual property and competition law. There are also sessions to consider the multitutde of issues from a regional perspective across the breadth of the Asia Pacific region in order to mutually enrich from a dialogue on latest developments in IP and Competition Law in their respective jurisdictions.

Interested participants may send their resume and a statement of purpose (max. 500 words) to [email protected] with a cc to [email protected] with the subject “Application for the Asia-Pacific Colloquium on IP & Competition”, on or before February 1, 2017.  

Financial Assistance

There will be no registration fees to attend this workshop. Further, CIIPC will provide accommodation (on a shared basis) for the participants from March 12 to 18, 2017. Additionally, snacks, lunch and dinner will also be provided on each of the days of the conference. In general, the participants will have to take care of their travel related expenses. However, CIIPC can cover the travel costs for a limited number of candidates. If you would like to be considered for scholarship to cover your travel expenses, please mention this specifically in your covering letter.

The colloquium will start on March 13, 2017 at 9:00 am and will end on March 17, 2017 at 5:00 pm. The tentative list of topics are:

  • Antitrust Economics for lawyers
  • Economics of the Interface between IP and competition law
  • Horizontal agreements concerning IP
  • Vertical agreements concerning IP
  • Tying arrangements/Royalty structuring in relation to IP
  • Unilateral refusal to deal
  • Antitrust Implications of IP Enforcement
  • Combinations involving IP
  • Sector/Industry specific IP and competition issues (pharmaceuticals, ICT, and agri-biotech)
