CGPDTM has a new address- New Delhi. Ten days ago, the plan to shift the office from Mumbai to New Delhi, and the consequent social media spat between the Commerce Minister and Aditya Thackeray were in the news. After clarification by the Commerce Minister on his social media account and a round of political banter, discussed here, the Ministry of Commerce has published a short notification announcing that the headquarters of the CGPDTM along with the Establishment and Finance Division has been shifted to New Delhi with immediate effect. See below:-

Such notification has different effective dates. In Hindi version, it is 27th February 2025. Meanwhile, in English version it is 27th October, 2025.
Thanks for pointing it out anon. I guess it could be a typo. Considering the notification says that the shift shall take place with an “immediate effect.” But quite curious that a mistake like this was made!
Mr.Gour, Can you please elaborate as to what difference it makes to the patent applicant and the Patent Agents. Now everything has been provided online for applicant right upto the stage of grant.
Dear Mr. Kulkarni,
Thank you for your comment. Yes, with everything online and the IP office in Mumbai still operating (just without these admin divisions now), I don’t think the move should affect the patent applicants or agents substantially. In my opinion the only foreseeable difference it is going to make is with regard to administration of the office. But I’d love to have your thoughts on this.
With recent news on controversies doing round in the O/o CCGPDTM regarding: arbitrary transfer, show-cause notices, arbitrary allotment of patent case, review case, shifting of IT administration in Ministry itself, building controversy etc….. after trimming financial and administrative power of CGPDTM (New transfer policy, where he cant make any mid-year transfer without Ministry permission, Ministry has a representation on transfer as per the transfer policy see new @ chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://ipindia.gov.in/writereaddata/Portal/Images/pdf/Approved_transfer_policy__1_.pdf and old @ chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://ipindia.gov.in/writereaddata/Portal/Images/pdf/OFFICE_MEMORANDUM.pdf)
) Ministry has played a card of “magis in potestate”
Thanks for the update anon! While I knew about control over some administrative (like having DPIIT taking over IT matters) and financial matters. I didn’t know about the change in transfer policy.
