  1. I just saw this advertisement in morning and was shocked to see the comparison of two brands especially Rin comparing to Tide. As far as advertisement law is concerned, one cannot do such type of an act. In fact, earlier a similar incidence had taken place, wherein two brands hit at each other. One is not suppose to compare its brand with another brand, the way it has been shown in Rin advertisement.

  2. If the act of HUL against P&G is upheld then this would pave way for other players like PEPSICO & COCA COLA, etc so in order to avoid this unhealthy competition, the act of HUL should be curtailed at its budding stage itself

  3. This is something which has not been done before. In my opinion if we look to the recent Judgements and ASCI regulations the advertisement in no way disparages Tide. Now we have to wait for the court intepretation.

  4. well i saw the ad and it is prima facie negative advertising. but it looks like tide has a case. i mean i am a regular user of tide and as a consumer i am little taken aback by the way Rin has tried to compare itself to tide..

  5. The Rin Vs Tide Ad is diff from Pepsi Vs Coca cola Ad (Salman Khan Spoof).Rin is in open fight with Tide. But this is unhealthy and reminds me of Indian Politics. This should be avoided and legal action should be taken against this.

  6. marketing is all about praising thier product but not about degrading their rivals one.I dint expect HUL to be such a goon n these kind of hard jokes wil definately tarnish the image of HUL.I thought HUL to be a healthy competator but he proved out to be a filthy competator finally i wish to say that freedom of speech does’nt mean that one can speak or show anything rubbish…

  7. Well its so funny … if the top most company has so much time n energy for planning such negative marketing then is a clear cut signal either it is scared of rival’s progress or is at the verge of downfall !!
This was HUL flop show ..expecting evrybody’s attention at the cost of its image …

  8. Its very sad on the part of Indian Courts that they have failed to appreciate one of the finest case of comparative advertising. It is settled law that though the advertiser has the right to boast superiority of his product in comparison to that of a competitor, ie., declare his own goods to be better than that of competitor; he cannot disparage the goods of a competitor. In the present case HUL just boasted superiority of its product. The only new thing in this advertisement was that HUL showed TIDE directly in comparison to RIN. But it doesn’t matter as long as the statement is true.
