As reported earlier on this blog, the Copyright Amendment Bill, 2010 was referred to the Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resources Development (HRD) headed by Shri Oscar Fernandes, Member of Parliament.

In response to the ‘Press Release’ calling for public comments on the Amendment Bill, we (Shamnad and I) prepared written submissions on certain aspects of the Amendment as also the present Copyright Act, 1957. Our submissions contain 9 chapters, covering a number of issues from the rights of lyricists to reciprocal protection to foreign copyright owners to the constitutionality of the copyright board.

A copy of the submissions has now been uploaded on the SpicyIP website over here. It can be found under the SpicyIP Resources heading over here.

As a continuation of our efforts to facilitate a public discussion on the various provisions of the Amendment Bill we will be posting, in the near future, individual clauses of the amendment bill on the CLAM (Collaborative Law Making) website to facilitate a ‘open and collaborative participation’ of our readers. Please click here to read more about the CLAM venture.

I’ll put up another post informing all our readers once we’ve configured CLAM for a discussion on the suggested amendments.
