We hope that our eligible readers are busy with their submissions as only 10 days remain till the deadline for the 2024 Shamnad Basheer Essay Competition. [Edit: The deadline has now been extended to 28th July, 2024 (11:59 pm IST)]. We have started receiving some fascinating entries and cannot wait to read more pieces! Remember the topic of the essay can be anything related to intellectual property rights – the more creative the better. We encourage participants to take inspiration from Prof. Basheer’s works, which have challenged the orthodoxy of conventional IP wisdom by looking at the subject through the lens of the global south and its development needs.
Shortlisted entries shall be judged by the fantastic panel judges comprising of Prof. (Dr.) Mrinalini Kochupillai, Mr. Murali Neelakantan, and Justice Gautam S. Patel (Retd.) and the winning essays will be published on the blog along with the following additional prizes:
First prize: INR 25,000
Second prize: INR 15,000
Third prize: INR 10,000
