First Indian Patent Institute Symposium offered by Franklin Pierce Center for IP

Interested followers of Spicy IP may be interested in the First Indian Patent Institute Symposium that is going to be offered in Bangalore on August 3-5, 2011, by the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property located at the University of New Hampshire School of Law. The Franklin Pierce Center for IP offers the most extensive selection of intellectual property courses in USA, exposing students to a wide range of cutting-edge intellectual property issues. As a pioneer in integrating intellectual property studies into legal education, the Center offers students the practical experience needed to handle innovation in today’s complex environment.

The Symposium, although not limited to, is targeted towards patent engineers and IP professionals. The lead instructors are faculty members at the Franklin Pierce Center for Intellectual Property in Concord, NH, USA. The topics discussed are as follows:

Patent Law: The Patent Law module will follow a standard introductory patent law course. Topics will include patent eligible subject matter, novelty, utility, inventive step and aspects of claim interpretation and enforcement as they might bear on the patent acquisition process. However, the emphasis will be on the patent system of the United States and more particularly, those areas in the U.S. law that cause the most issues in a multinational patent practice. Those issues include, for example, determining inventorship, best mode, prior art effect of non-U.S. applications (as elucidated in the case In re Hilmer), duty of disclosure, the doctrine of equivalents and the like.

Drafting: The Claim Drafting module emphasizes best practices for drafting patent claims for all types of inventions, with an emphasis on drafting claims for the United States Patent Office. The topics covered will include claim drafting mechanics, invention analysis techniques and recent developments in statutory subject matter. The matter of Bilski v. Kappos will be analyzed as well as subsequent decisions by the courts and the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences addressing 35 USC 101. Professor McCrackin will also present her top ten ways to write a claim that will be infringed.

Valuation of IP: An examination of the financial and economic principles that underlie the valuation and exploitation of intellectual property in business.

  1. Couldn’t help:
“Cancellation Policy Deadline: If an insufficient number of participants do not register by June 1, 2011, the seminar will be canceled.”

    Regards

  2. “..If the seminar is canceled, all money advanced by the registrants will be refunded within thirty (30) business days after the date of cancellation…”
