SpicyIP Tidbit: ‘Singh & Singh’ & ‘Lall & Sethi’ to merge

Yesterday, Bar and Bench reported that ‘Singh & Singh’ & ‘Lall & Sethi’, two prominent IP law firms in India, are merging to form ‘Singh & Singh Lall & Sethi’.

‘Singh & Singh’ & ‘Lall & Sethi’ are both leading law firms of the country having expertise in intellectual property law. Singh & Singh also has a very robust practice in telecommunication law.

Singh & Singh Law Firm LLP was set up in 1997, by its founding partners, Mr. Maninder Singh and Ms. Prathiba M Singh, who are both now designated as Senior Advocates.

Lall & Sethi was set up by Mr. Chander Lall as a proprietorship firm, which moved to a partnership model in 2013. Senior Associates Raghav Malik, Jyotideep Kaur and Tia Malik are equity partners in the firm with Dr. Anju Khanna as the fifth partner.

Mr. Chander Lall of Lall & Sethi was quoted as saying, “We felt that we have the perfect synergy. Each of us has its own strengths and weaknesses. We are very strong in international market as far as trademark and copyrights are concerned while Singh & Singh is strong in the same areas in the domestic market…With this merger, the new firm can now handle both IP Litigation and Prosecution. We have truly become a composite boutique powerhouse in Intellectual Property. We can now cover all areas of intellectual property, with litigation practice which is unmatched.”

The merger which would be effective from 1st April, 2015 will have nine partners and twenty six lawyers.

Sudeep Chatterjee, Bitika Sharma, Tejveer Singh Bhatia and Saya Choudhary of Singh & Singh will be part of the new firm.
