Rajiv did his engineering from Nagpur University in 2000 in electronics design technology. He has completed his LL.B. from Delhi University, Law Center II in 2006, while working as an engineer at ST Microelectronics in NOIDA. After his LL.B., he went on to The George Washington Univeristy, Washington DC to do his LL.M. in 2007. After his LL.M., he has worked in the US at a prestigious IP law firm based out of Philadelphia. Till 2014, he was Of-Counsel to a Noida based IP law firm where he specialized in advising clients on wireless, telecommunication, and high technology. Rajiv is the founder of Tech Law Associates, a New Delhi based law firm specializing in IP law, with a focus on high - technology, and patent law. His core IP interest areas are the intersection of technology and IP, Indian IP policy, innovation, and telecommunications patents. He is also an inventor with pending applications in machine-to-machine communications domain (WO2015029061).

Patent office announces the result of patent agent’s examination 2013

The Indian Patent Office announced the results of the Patent Agent examination held in May 2013 last week on September 23, 2013. The results are available on the website of the Patent Office here. The overall pass percentage for the exam is approximately 24.98% or 25%.  This is an increase of about 6.5% as compared to last time (2011). UK High Court decision involving patentable subject matter – computer programs

DIPP issues notification proposing an across the board hike in patent filing fees

In a recent notification issued by the DIPP, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry proposes to raise the fee levied for filing and prosecuting patents before the Indian patent office.  The notification may be accessed directly here.  This gazette notification of May 6, 2013 notifies the Draft Patent Rules 2013 and it is expected that they would be tabled in the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament.  Comments are due by June 21  (Long post follows). IPAB upholds validity of Bajaj Auto’s patent in revocation proceedings brought by LML

In a major boost to Bajaj Auto Ltd. (“Bajaj”), the IPAB in a recent decision, upheld Bajaj’s patent IN189097 (‘097 patent) relating to an intake system for two-stroke engines in two wheelers with a monocoque chassis – in a revocation proceedings brought in by LML Ltd. Madras High Court strikes down amendment to S.126 of Patents Act
