Asian-European IP Case Database

Asian-European IP Case Database

The Center for Advanced Study & Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP, University of Washington School of Law) together with the Research Center for the Legal System of Intellectual Property (RCLIP, Waseda University) have developed a database of IP case law which includes a collection of about 2000 summaries and full-text cases from India along as well as from major Asian countries. The database is open to the public at http://www.21coe-win-cls.org/rclip/db/search_form.php

The UW CASRIP and Waseda RCLIP plans to expand the database to include IP Case Law Database on major European countries in the fall of 2008. In fact, 50 to 100 German case summaries are expected to be added by next March.

There may, however, be a few blips which need to be ironed out. For eg., a search for ‘injunction’ under the “India” category wrongly throws up a Canadian case amongst the results. Hopefully this is just a one-off instance of mis-labeling of the case which will be corrected soon, since by and large this seems to be a very useful database.
